Credit card basics for Mauritius

Understand interest-free periods, minimum payments, fees and reward programmes before applying for a credit card.

Interest-free period

Most Mauritian credit cards offer up to 45–55 interest-free days if you pay the full statement balance. If you pay only the minimum, interest is charged on the remaining balance from the purchase date.

Annual and transaction fees

Entry-level cards often have low or no annual fees, while platinum and rewards cards charge more. Watch for cash-advance fees, foreign-currency mark-ups and late-payment penalties.

Minimum payments and compounding

Paying only the minimum keeps your account current but costs far more over time. Interest compounds monthly, so a small balance can grow quickly if not cleared.
